Attending Oktoberfest for the first time in my life
I was about to attend Oktoberfest for the first time in my life. I decided to bring my camera along for the adventure and film the entire experience to create a vlog. However, the first thing that happened was that I forgot my passport when we were supposed to catch the Flixbus from Chur. This meant we had to book the next bus later in the day.
When we finally arrived at Oktoberfest, it was an amazing experience. I went with one of the other exchange students here in Chur, Till. We had some beers and tried a few different rides until, unfortunately, Till suddenly felt unwell and ended up in the hospital. Thankfully, he’s okay now, but I was left at Oktoberfest with no cash and no ability to speak the language.

Self-Reflection
I think the video turned out fun, and I had plenty of opportunities to add humorous edits that people could laugh at. I found music that perfectly fits the Oktoberfest theme, and I captured lots of great B-roll footage. However, I feel like I could have shown more of the actual Oktoberfest itself. The vlog leaned a bit too much into humor, and it could have been more informative, giving viewers a better sense of what Oktoberfest is really like.
Challenges
First and foremost: always remember your passport when taking the Flixbus. Since it was just the two of us, it was a bit challenging to come up with fun games or fully showcase the venue. Also, since we were only there for a few hours and had to head back the same day, there was limited time to film everything I wanted.
What I Learned
I’ve learned to always double-check for my passport and to consider going with a bigger group for trips like this. If I visit Oktoberfest again next year, I want to make sure viewers get a full sense of what the festival has to offer. I feel like I only captured about 25% of what you can experience. Including more B-roll and atmospheric shots would definitely improve the overall video.
